Unique Example for Sand Tray Therapist to Try: My Sand Tray Zen Garden

When I learned we had to make our own Sand Tray Therapy Zen garden I was a bit confused. I wasn’t sure how to start or what to make it out of. Then I found this random cigar box in my house and quickly started thinking that would be perfect. The box is a light wood and with a latch cover and is just large enough to fit some miniatures. I was excited to see how it would turn out. I haven't really played with sand since I was a child and so I was excited to get to play with it. I had gotten a small bag of “beach
sand” from the store and remember thinking that it was so grainy but when I started playing with it.

I was so pleasantly surprised how good the sand felt. At first I had no idea what to do with the miniatures or my Zen garden but then I found myself being drawn to certain miniatures. I was at my cousin’s house that day and I even found miniature objects lying around the house that I was able to use in my new Sand Tray Therapy Zen garden.

I played with the sand for a while and then started placing objects in my Sand Tray Therapy Zen garden. Soon I found myself very relaxed and every few minutes changing the Zen garden around.

After sitting outside for a while by myself I was joined by family members who were also drawn to the sand and started playing with it. Some even setup their own world. I just became so amazed at how people reacted to the sand and how they set up the small Sand Tray Therapy Zen garden. Now I’m honestly excited to see about the actual sand tray therapy lesson.
