What makes a Creative Counselor Different from a Regular Counselor, or Therapist?

The Creative Counselor is a licensed professional in many fields of mental health who offer more to clients. The Creative Counselor offers a unique and creative approach to clients in order to promote emotional well being and healing.

This type of counselor / therapist takes the eclectic approach to therapy. They do not adhere to one or two therapeutic approaches. They seek training and knowledge in many different arenas of psychotherapy. These highly trained counselors and therapists allow the client to dictate where the path of therapy will lead.

The Creative Counselor has the tools and training that are needed for Creative Therapy. If a Creative Therapist does not have the understanding or training necessary then they seek training and supervision. This is all for the benefit of the client. It is also to insure the best therapeutic experience for the welfare and safety of the client.

Creative Counseling and Psychotherapy includes Play Therapy, Play Therapy Games, Sand Tray Therapy, Art Counseling, Bibliotherapy, Music Therapy, Dance Therapy, etc. The Creative Therapist is open using creativity with their clients in order to promote a stronger and deeper level of healing.

The Creative Counselor is able to modify activities for all age levels. They never get "stuck" with their client's in therapy. They use more than "talk therapy" with their clients if the client is open to the creative experience.

Any therapist can use "talk therapy", however, the Creative Counselor offers so much more to their clients if they want or need more.

This website is a basic tool for the beginning therapist to the advanced more seasoned therapist. The activities shown have been used in the private practice setting and the school counseling setting for clients of all ages.

As a Creative Counselor, I use Creative Counseling in many settings. I teach these activities to college students in graduate counseling programs. I have also used these activities and techniques in private practice and with modification, the school counseling setting.

Creative Counseling has no age limit. It can be used with children, adolescents, teens, and adults of all ages. All age groups can benefit from using creativity during therapy.

"Beyond Art Therapy" is the concept from Dr. Stangline that combines all creative fields in therapy. It is not the traditional "art therapy" but goes beyond to include sand tray therapy, play therapy, mindfulness, meditation, color therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and a vast majority of other therapies.
