Student 4: Sand Tray Therapy Class Mandala

We did this sand tray in a group setting in sand tray therapy class. Each of us just kind of did our own thing while respecting the other members' space. We added each of our own flare until we were satisfied with the result, which we were all three very satisfied and decided that the tray looked very happy and calm. We drew a circle in the sand around a plate and one of the members put bright colored stones around it to make the circle more concrete and solid. We stuck a seashell in the center and one of the members made a beach get away in one corner. The other member sprinkled party confetti in the center of the mandala. She also put a maraca and a butterfly, I put in another butterfly on the other side. I put a teddy bear, some leaves to represent a tree, some cake, and a happy peppermint candy. We had to put in more cake so there was enough for all three of us so we added some more in. The shell represented peace and the beach and being centered. The teddy bear represented childishness and received comfort. The party confetti represented a celebration. The maraca represented music and dancing to one of the other girls and it tied into my own feelings as well. The leaves represented nature and freedom. The star represented achievement and happiness. The overall feeling of the mandala was happiness and relief, a need for a vacation or a break and new beginnings.
