This sand tray for sand tray therapy class on Maslow's Hierarchy took a lot of thought. I had trouble finding the perfect things for all of the levels.
I started with the first level entitled Psychological. I think that water, food and exercise is essential. This level was pretty clear and cut for me.
The next level was for safety. My brother is with Secret Service. I automatically think of the military, hence, the tank and army man. On a spiritual level I added the gargoyle. I think if they are good enough to be put on famous churches then they must have great significance. I also added some army walls as a barrier of protection.
The middle level is that of love. I especially think this is important. I put a glass heart, animals and a spiritual miniature. I find peace and a sense of warmth with these miniatures. I would of wanted to add a few more things but I could not find the right symbols. I also added my son who is a great source of love in my life. I have many friends and if I was to do it again I would of added my friends. They are not so much symbolic of love but of belonging.
The next level leading to the top is Self- Esteem. This I put my degree and a trophy in first. This seemed complete to me. I value my accomplishments and like to see them to remind me that I have done many things in my life worth being proud of.
The very top level is Self-Actualization. This means to me the ultimate achievement. I see myself as relaxed in a chair with my sandals at an amazing place like Hawaii. I also see a major part of my life balanced like the Zen rock which I included. Last, I put a world symbol in the corner. This is to represent all my life experiences that have given me wisdom to be able to enter the door of this high level. I am not here yet but I am striving to one day be at this great desired place.
