Creating My Sand Tray Therapy Zen Garden

I was excited about creating a Sand Tray therapy Zen Garden. I wanted to find a medium wooden box that I could paint blue inside and cover with sand. I could not find this wooden box so I was a little disappointed. I thought about items that I had at home that I could use. It was a toss up between a rectangular ceramic tray and a circular metal lid that covers an “eye” on the stove. I went with the rectangular ceramic tray.
I already knew what I wanted to put in my Sand Tray Therapy Zen garden. I wanted to be creative and make my rake. I have several small “shrimp” forks. I thought it would be cool if I could bend the tongs down to form a rake. I tried it and it was cool, but not really what I expected. It was fine but it did not “rake” the sand like I thought it would.
Since I could not paint a blue lining inside my Zen garden, I added some blue pebbles to the sand along with a white marble and a bluish-black marble. Next I took a rock from one of my plants and added it to the sand. I capped off my Zen garden with a green bushy tree from my army miniatures. I felt proud of my Zen garden. It found its home in the middle of the kitchen table. I will eventually move it so it does not get messed up.
As I looked at my creation, I tried to think of why I chose to put those specific items in the garden. I know I chose the green tree to represent a Palm tree on a beach. The blue pebbles reminded me of the beautiful blue waters in the Caribbean Islands. The pebbles also represent the calming blue skies that I would see if I were laying on the beach looking up. The white marble represented the soft puffy clouds in the sky. The bluish-black marble somehow made me feel tranquil (I have a jar of them and sometimes I just stare at them).
