From Sorrow Comes Joy: Sand Tray Therapy Class Assignment Dirt Tray
When asked to create a dirt sand tray for my sand tray therapy class assignment, I immediately knew that this would be a fun tray to make.
I went outside in the woods after a storm, and proceeded to take everything in. Natural materials were wet, which made for an interesting experience. I chose to utilize sticks and leaves in my natural tray. The sticks I found seem to represent life's many stressors and joys that we are faced with: work, school, family, relationships, tragedies, For me, this has been an especially tough semester. From my sister giving birth to a new baby boy, to my grandfather passing away and me breaking up with my girlfriend, there have been a lot of struggles to deal with. The sticks are representative because they don't budge and are relentless in the face of pain and sorrow.
On the other hand, a lot of joy balances out the bad with the good. Having supportive friends, getting good grades in graduate school, and having a wonderful review at work are all wonderful things to be positive about. These joys are represented by the life, which symbolizes life and joy. Through all of the bad, there is good. From sorrow comes joy. It really makes you realize that it could always be worse.
