Sand Tray / Sand Play World mandala activity for group
Creating the mandala sand tray for sand tray therapy with the other ladies in my group was an insightful experience. It was interesting to see how we all gravitated towards creating a very positive tray without even sharing a word about our thoughts. It was even more interesting that one of my group members and I had the same initial thought to place a seashell in the center of the mandala. In my opinion, it demonstrated how in touch we were with one another on themes such as relaxation and serenity. As we began processing the tray, items that initially seemed to have no real significance started to reveal things of deeper meaning. The sand tray for sand tray therapy class had a general theme of items that were happy and things that brought us peace and relaxation. When we began processing the teddy bear, I at first just saw it as a symbol of something cuddly, warm, and friendly. After we looked up the meaning of this word, however, one word stuck out to me as what this teddy bear could have symbolized for me: security. The teddy bear gave me hope that after I completed the counseling program I would be able to re-establish a sense of security in my relationship with my son. This piece of symbolism served as a reminder to me that there is meaning in everything we do in the sand tray for my sand tray therapy class.
