Positive Behavior Reward Chart Game for Children
Help for Parents, Teachers, Administrators, and School Counselors with Positve Behavior    

I use this positive behavior / reward management game chart with my students at school, and also with children who are clients in private practice. It is similar to a play therapy game and kids love it!

Children who have issues with behavior management are often resistant to the traditional behavior / reward management charts. These behaivor management charts are boring, detailed, and much too long for kids.

If you turn behavior management into a game for young children they are more open to trying positive behavior.

The game below is easy to use. It is also excellent for teachers because it takes very little time to fill out.

Traditional behavior reward management charts are often to extensive and complicated for teachers, parents, and children.

When you use the Smiley Face Positive Reward / Behavior Chart you simply label a task or segment of the day under the smiley face.

If the child has positive behavior success during the task, or segment, the adult simply colors in the smiley face. Highlighters work best. Try using different colors for a more creative game positive reward game.

The beauty of this game is that the teacher or parent does not have to give a sad smiley face. This is not recommended as it is considered to be very negative to even the youngest psyche.

With this behavior plan the child / student either earns the colored smiley face, or they do not. It is considered to be black and white. There are no grey areas. The smiley face with the flat lined mouth is considered to be a grey area.

The goal is to get as many smiley faces colored in as possible. It also makes the game board look more festive and creative. The psyche loves this.

The best way to start this positive behavior management / reward game is to break down the segments into smaller chunks. Then you will build up and have more expectations.

For example, you would say, "You are going to try to earn five out of ten smiley faces today." Each week you will ask the student / child to try to earn more and more smiley faces on the positive behavior management / reward chart game.

One goal is selected until mastery of that goal is attained. Do not ask the student / child to attempt mastery on more than one goal at a time. This is unfair to the child. 

Directions for the Positive Behavior Management / Reward Game:

Write one desired goal on the line below for the student to

follow. Each day the student will try to earn several colored smiley face for positive behavior. On the lines below the smiley faces write in the class segment.

If the student shows positive behavior during that segment the teacher will highlight a smiley face on the positive behavior management / reward chart. If the student does not show positive behaviors the smiley face is left blank.

Try to increase the amount of smiley faces each week on the positive behavior management / reward chart and offer a positive behavior reward for reaching the goal.
