Play Therapy's Positive Self-Portrait Example
When I was young, I would constantly draw pictures of myself and my family, little stick people with big smiles. Somewhere along the way, the art ceased and words took over.
In this fast-paced, social world, it is sometimes hard to lose sight of your true self in the middle of so many other expectations and standards of who the world, and sometimes you, think you should be.
This is why I choose to do a play therapy simple sel-portrait that focused on how I see myself, shedding a positive light in my moments of doubt.
I chose to focus on colors and words as a part of my art. A lot of art is interpreted differently, depending on one's mood, personality, or just their place in life. I wanted there to be no uncertainty as to what my art was saying about me- so words were most effective.
Using adjectives, strategically placed around my body outline, I tried to think of as many positive attributes as possible. To be honest, I got stuck after about seven. That was an eye opener in its self, for i t let me know that I was, in that moment, out of touch with myself.
Through self reflection, I was eventually able to fill my play therapy self-portrait with as much positivity as possible.
