The Teddy Bear Tea Party

Play Therapy Teddy Bear Tea Party: I use the Play Therapy Teddy Bear Tea Party theme at the beginning of my sessions with children.

New play therapy clients are allowed to bring in a stuffed animal of choice (Not necessarily a teddy bear) for a “Getting To Know You Teddy Bear Tea”.

This allows the child to “bring a friend” to the play therapy session and not feel so afraid.

Materials for Play Therapy Teddy Bear Tea Party: One stuffed animal of choice from home. I also serve snacks such as crackers, PBJ finger sandwiches, cookies, and candies. I use water for tea in my children's tea set.

Directions for Play Therapy Teddy Bear Tea Party:

1. For the first or second play therapy session allow a child to bring a favorite stuffed animal from home to the session for a “Play Therapy Teddy Bear Tea Party.”

I give out invitations to my play therapy clients to make it seem more “official".

2. Before the play therapy session set out cookies, finger sandwiches, candy, and crackers. Children are not very fussy about sweets and the smallest effort can seem like a lot to them.

3. Serve water in a tea set and sit down for the Play Therapy Teddy Bear Tea Party with the child. The most important thing is to attend to the child and follow their lead in the tea party.

4. Make sure you enjoy yourself in order for the child to feel at ease and enjoy themselves as well!
