Play Therapy / School Counselor Family Genogram (Even the mistakes reveal things)

This is play therapy / school counseling family genogram picture of my immediate family. I drew us in various places because right now my immediate family is in different parts of the country. When I looked at this picture I noticed that none of my family is completely in one state besides me.

At first I just chalked that up to not being able to draw and making my states too small, but when I sat and thought about it, I realized that there are reasons that my family are on borders and two states at the same time.

The woman in the burgundy shirt and blue jeans is me, and next to me is my mother. If you look, it appears that my mother is holding on to my arm. I didn’t do that on purpose, but it is a true representation of how things are now. I am the only one of her children that lives in Georgia and she is because she doesn’t get to see her other children, she is constantly reaching out to me. The child on the coast of Georgia is my daughter Natasha.

She is on the border of Georgia because she is currently in Savannah with family. She divides her time between Atlanta and savannah, hence being divided by the border. My brother, Jovon is the guy in the picture. He has a new job and he travels a lot.

I have no idea where he is now, which is why I drew in between two states. My sister lives in Chicago and I even drew her out of the country some. Again, this was a mistake but after deeper reflection I realized that even though her home is in Chicago, she loves to travel out of the country to new and different places.

It’s amazing how even the “mistakes” in my pictures took on new meanings in this play therapy / school counseling genogram.
