Play therapy game to use in therapy: A Penny for your Thoughts
This play therapy game is designed for elementary aged children but can be adapted for adults who are looking to reconnect with their inner child. The game is composed of thought provoking questions for the client to explore their likes, dislikes, family system and emotions.
A penny is used to marked the box once the number is called. Once the play therapy client achieves BINGO by having a straight line either horizontally or vertically, the client can be rewarded by keeping the pennies or with a small token.
Play Therapy Game Supplies Needed:
5 pennies
Game Board
Token or prize
Play Therapy Game Instructions:
1. The play therapist randomly selects chips representing the quadrants on the game board (B1, I4, N3, O9, etc.).
2. The client places a penny on the space and must answer the question that is on the space. Some of the questions are shapes such as a heart. The therapist can ask, “Name one person that you love” or “Name one person that you know who loves you.” The questions can be asked in a way that allows the therapist to ask follow up questions such as “How does the person show you that they love you?”
3. The play therapists continues to select chips until the client achieves BINGO by having a straight line either horizontally or vertically.
