Play Therapy Sand Tray Therapy: Follow my journey into the sand tray.
I really enjoyed creating my sand tray in sand tray therapy but was reluctant to make a new one because I wanted to post about my first sand tray therapy experience. I created one in class because I received great insight from my classmate. I decided to create a new one and reflect on the experience.
As I view my world that I created with my sand tray therapy tray, I see a representation of myself as the hippo walking in the path of the yellow truck. This is a reflection of what I am feeling right now as I finish up my hours for internship and about to enter the workforce again but this time as a graduate from Mercer and soon to be APC.
I am scared and anxious right now but happy that my time at Mercer is ending but also sad because I have enjoyed my experience as a student. I am happy that I am at the end of the journey but scared about what is ahead-the unknown.
Several obstacles I am dealing with currently are financial, relational, emotional and spiritual all of which are indicated by the yellow truck, giraffe, yellow car, two dinosaurs, and blue car.
I feel like I am about to be run over by all of these obstacles. I also feel that the soldier represents my fear and frustration as a whole with issues such as the current job market and “limited opportunities” that I have as a new graduate and overall stressors.
All of the issues are facing one direction but I (the hippo) am facing another direction. There is also a red cone to the right of me that is facing all of my issues. I can also see that the train is facing the same direction that I am going which I think is a symbol of my tenacity to push forward in the midst of obstacles. The train is leaning but still on the right track and moving ahead regardless is taking place.
I think the figure next to me is a representation of my faith and me knowing that regardless of how I feel and what I think, God is with me and will continue to be with me as I enter on this new journey. I think the cone represents a reminder for me to take things one day at a time and one obstacle at a time. I can only do what I can do and cannot control events or people.
I can handle what I can and leave the rest in God’s hands and focus on previous accomplishments and continue to reflect on the things in my “bon bon box” when I start to feel anxious and unsure.
