Play Therapy Sand Tray Therapy: My first sand tray!
When I first thought of play therapy sand tray therapy I had no idea what to think. I had no idea that emotions would arise and I would start to think of my past and why I am now.
The picture of my sand tray therapy tray is an illustration of my world and each miniature represents someone or something. The first thing I placed was the castle which represents how much I find comfort in home and the security. My mom is the mouse because it reminds me of Cinderalla and how much my mom likes sewing. The big turtle is my dad which overlooks all of our lives and is a protector. My sister is the frog, my brother is the turtle, and I am in the middle as a duck.
When I was questioned of the figures I had no idea what was going to be asked and how I was going to react. When a question was asked about the tiger up close to my mom I had no intention on putting it there for any other reason than it representing my cat, Tiger. However through questioning my emotions came up and some memories started flowing.
The impact sand tray has on a person is incredible and I am very excited about working with children in the future. I believe that aspects of a child's life can be revealed in sand tray therapy, especiall in play therapy, which he or she may not have on intended. I really enjoyed the experience and I plan on keeping the sand tray out.
