Play Therapy Bibliotherapy Book to Help Kids Fit In At School
The play therapy book I chose is titled, "Morris Goes to School," by B. Wiseman. The story is about a moose named Morris who starts school. In the beginning he sticks out like a sore thumb. He doesn't keeps messing up at school and can't seem to fit in or get the hang of things. A little girl in his class becomes his friend and shows him the ropes so to speak. By the end of the book he really enjoys school and has made friends with everyone in his class.
When I discovered this play therapy book I immediately thought about a client of mine that has just started public school and is having trouble adjusting. The funny hijinx that Morris gets into trying to fit in at school could help her to see that school can be fun. The anxiety that Morris feels in the book could help normalize the feelings my play therapy client is experiencing. I love using books in therapy and cannot pass a bookstore without looking for books that I could use. This book is useful for kids who have a hard time fitting in at school, or will need to attend a new school.
