Play Therapy Miniature World Activity and Technique: Personal Landscape
This play therapy assignment was more of a challenge than some of the other assignments. It took me a moment to find and then enter my personal landscape. My play therapy landscape started slowly, VERY slowly and then it began to materialize. Nature is generally included in my worlds.
My play therapy personal landscape includes a rugged area and a serene area. A body of water separates the two areas. Part of the water is calm and the other part is tumultuous. There are two bridges which cross the water. One bridge is broad and wide while the other is a thin branch.
Primarily, I dwell on the rugged side. The stone represents the obstacles and the serpent represents evil. There is a cocklebur which represents difficulty, but within it is a jewel. The combination of the two, represent the idea that “good can come from suffering/difficulties.”
It’s important to look for good in unlikely places. Periodically throughout the landcape there are jewels. The jewels represents the blessings and joys of life. In the midst of the landscape is a ball of translucent fabric. The fabric represents the unknown and confusing aspects of life. There is also a volcano, which represents sensitive areas in my life which may erupt. There is a photo of my dream home and a photo of my rural beginnings. My faith is vital part of my landscape and is apparent in the inclusion of the cross and the miniature kneeling in prayer.
The frog represents the changes of life. The turtle swims in the water (sometimes representing adversity) and can embark upon rugged side or serene side. Adversity affects us in different ways. There are miniatures which represent the seasons of life indicating the changes we experience.
The serene side is well manicured with flowers and mulch. There is also a serpent on the serene (green) side of the landscape, which represents the imperfection of the world. This serpent (cobra) is more dangerous than the serpent on the rugged side, because it takes us by surprise. Our unrealistic expectations can devastate us. There are pieces of debris in this play therapy activity, representing things in our life that aren’t supposed to be there, but they’re there anyway. Learn How to Use Play Therapy Link:
