My First Sand tray for Sand Tray Therapy Class

Prior to this experience I had no knowledge of Sand tray Therapy and I wondered how placing random objects in a tray could be effective in treatment.

However, after witnessing insight and emotions brought about in my classmate last week, I became a true believer in sand tray therapy as a form of treatment.

The experience of watching my classmates subjective world in the sand intrigued me and made me excited about creating my own sand tray at home.

I was surprised at how the miniatures of sand tray therapy really did “choose” me, and how I instinctive knew when I was done creating my world. The sand tray made me realize how I prioritize the things and people in my life.

I realized that I am not in touch with my inner child at the moment and that I am not traveling or having enough fun. I also realized how much a part of my psyche that my deceased daughter still is.

She was prominent in my sand tray although she passed away 10 years ago.
I also gained more insight into my relationships with my parents, my brother, and my ex-husband.

I was surprised at how much insight and how many thoughts and memories were invoke in me. I am excited about using sand tray as a part of my counseling practice.

I am so amazed at how quickly information is revealed through the act of placing miniatures in a sand tray. I plan on continuing my personal sand tray therapy and my children are excited about choosing their miniatures and creating their own sand trays. This would have been extremely helpful in helping my children express themselves during our divorce a few years ago.
