Bullying Prevention Coping Skill Tip 

Stop the bullying with "Love and Kindness"

For School Counselors, Therapists, Teachers, Parents, and Kids of all Ages!

 I read the story "Amour and the Red Dragon" to the students at my elementary school where I work as a school counselor. I wrote this story to introduce the school counselor word of the month character words "love and kindness" during my guidance lessons.

The story is about one of my little Warm Fuzzy Friends named "Amour". As you may know, "amour" means "love" in French. This little Warm Fuzzy Friend is pink in honor of love and also because I teach this guidance lesson around Valentine's Day. 

The Red Dragon is named "Flame". Of course he is red (Valentine's Day too!) and he is also very angry. He bullies a village with his fire breath. "Amour" shows the village that love and kindness can stop the bully dragon.

You can find this story on the link below. It is a great story to read to kids of all ages. Parents and teachers may also like to read this story to their children.

After reading the story, I have my students practice the "bullying prevention coping skill" that goes hand in hand with the character words of the month, "love and kindness".

We role play during guidance lessons and also on the morning announcements. I tell the students to look the person sitting next to them in the eye and practice the "monthly bullying prevention coping skill".

Students are also reminded to use their emotionally intelligence and positive pro-active body language. At my school we practice these skills quite a bit.

Try this emotionally intelligent bullying prevention coping skill today! Adults can also use this in the workplace, at home, or whenever the need for bullying prevention arises. 

Love and Kindness Bullying Prevention Coping Skill Tip:

1. Stand or sit up straight.

2. Look the bully, or mean teaser, in the eye.

3. Tell them in a firm (don't yell or shout) voice, "Just be nice!"

4. Don't say anything else (Even if they start talking to you). Then just calmly walk away and get busy doing something else.

5. If the bully, or mean teaser continues, try this tip a few more times.

*Note: Always follow the safety tips about bullying prevention. If you are being hurt or threatened, or someone else is, tell a trusted adult immediately! If that adult does not listen, keep telling until someone does something to help you!
