(School Counselor Play Therapy Student)
Learn how School Counselors can use a Play Therapy Mandala
This play therapy mandala can be used in play therapy or in school counseling. This would be a perfect school counseling group for school counselors to use with students.
I found that creating this play therapy mandala gave me some interesting insight into my true feelings. I am currently being pulled or lead into many different directions, and I realized that I do not spend much time on me. The purple dot in the middle of my play therapy mandala represents me. The three arrows represent the three main “hats” that I wear: single mother, teacher, and grad school student.
The circles within the play therapy mandala represents the cycle of my life. My life for the past 3 years has been school, work, and motherhood. It is the same thing everyday, with very few changes.
The blue arrow represents my job as a preschool teacher. Next to this arrow, I have dark clouds, because lately I have not been happy with my career choice. There was a lot of drama this past school year with the administration at my school, and the school recently closed, leaving me unemployed and having to seek a new job for myself and a new school for my daughter to attend.
The question marks near the clouds represent the uncertainty in my career path. Will I be able to find a new job in the fall and still take care of my other responsibilities?
The red arrow represents the “grad school student” hat that I wear everyday. This arrow is the longest because this role pulls me the most in relation to the time I have to spend on it, as well as the amount of stress that is related to it. There is a tornado right next to this arrow because grad school gives me mixed emotions. I am glad that I decided to go back to school, but it is very time consuming and it can be very stressful, especially this last semester.
The question marks near the tornado are due to the fact that I am unsure if going back to school was the best decision to make at this time. Also, the question marks are there because I am unsure if I will be able to find a job in my field of study.
The orange arrow represents my role as a mother. I have a 2 year old daughter and she puts the biggest smile on my face. If I am having a rough day, all I have to do is look at her and my stress melts away. I have put a heart on this arrow because Natasha is my heart and I don’t know what I would do if she wasn’t a part of my world.
The question marks in the large space are for the missing “Tiffany” arrow. I spend so much time wearing these other hats and fulfilling these other roles that I rarely take the time I need for myself. I have been struggling with these issues for years, and I know that this is something that needs to change. I take of my daughter, my students, friends, and even school work, but I never take time for me. I know that in order to be successful I need to take care of me.
