Help for Kids in Play Therapy Technique: Clip Art Theater

This is my play therapy clip art theater! When Dr. S initially introduced the concept of clip art miniatures, I fell in love! I felt reassured that if I did not have a miniature that a client needed that I could not quickly make, I had a go-to resource. My clip art theater was my first experience with clip art.

I made the play therapy theater quickly and with materials readily avaliable at my site so that I could be sure I could recreate the experience with a play therapy client spontaneously.
I am really pleased with how my play therapy theater turned out. I was apprehensive about being able to find miniatures in magazines, but I did what Dr. S said, and 'let the miniatures pick me' and it worked! After I had collected a few miniatures I sat back and looked at what I picked and analyzed why I thought I picked them.

I had picked play therapy miniatures that represented parts of myself and/or my roles. The brain represents the student role and it is big because that role is dominating all others in my life right now. The woman holding a weight over her head represents to me the role I play with my family. The pleaser role and aspect of myself really comes out with my family. The woman with lots of things circling around her head in mid-air represents how I feel most of the time, balancing many things at once.

The silly orange represents my fun, goofy side that I don't have much time for right now, but will be coming out more once I am finished with school. The masked lady represents my private self, who I am behind closed doors alone. I learned a lot about myself throughout his activity. I really taught me a lot about how I see my self, my life, and my feelings.
