Feelings Bottle for Play Therapy: Free Activity
When asked to create a play therapy Feelings Bottle in class, I initially wondered....how is this germane to play therapy? I soon learned, however, that making a Feelings Bottle was a unique exercise in understanding feelings. It just so happened that I was feeling rather sad that day.
Hence, I went through all the steps of creating the Play Therapy Feelings Bottle. The color blue signified sadness, and the sparkling gems and glitter that I dropped into the bottle represented my "sad feelings." I then shook the bottle, observed the royal blue waves, and set the bottle on my desk.
When the "storm" passed and calm was restored inside my Feelings Bottle, I understood the concept of this assignment. Albeit things go awry in our day to day lives, feelings change. By recognizing, for instance, that sad feelings are temporary, we are better equipped to ride out the stormy times in our lives.
Another class project relative to feelings was the Play Therapy Feeling Cookie. In determining the colors of frosting that I would use to decorate my Feeling Cookie, I simply allowed myself to flow with my feelings at that moment.
The colors I chose were lavender, pale blue, periwinkle, pink, seafoam green, forest green, coral, saffron yellow, and fire engine red. My choice of myriad colors signified that I was experiencing mixed feelings.
I can now see the significance of these play therapy techniques in creative counseling with clients.
