Play Therapy Mandala Example: The Flower
I decided to make a play therapy flower mandala simply because I have always liked both flower and vegetable gardens. I used to help my parents in their vegetable garden every spring, summer, and early fall as I was growing up.
In a way, I feel like outdoor gardening is a form of "natural creative art". Therefore, when I was able to make my own gardens and plan my own landscaping, I found that it was almost like a form of therapy.
In my play therapy mandala, the brown construction paper represents the ground, or dirt. The seeds are the beginning stage of any flower, and the smaller and larger leaves represent the growth cycle.
The pansy in the center is the focus, and also represents the final growth stage. When I look at this mandala, it reminds me of the feel of soft, warm dirt on my hands from planting, weeding, and fertilizing the flowers.
It reminds me of both the work and the pleasure of watching a plant grow. Also, it reminds me of the sun and the rain needed to produce healthy flowers.
I chose a pansy because if has always been one of my favorite flowers. It comes in a variety of colors, it seems to defy nature by blooming in the winter season, and it was also my sorority flower in college.
After I look at my play therapy mandala long enough, it stirs up spring fever to go outside and plant my spring & summer flowers : )
