It was hard to find a minute this week when it was not raining or when I did not have to deal with renovations after the flood in my loft.

After a day of frustrating decisions, such as which type of flooring to use and what color, and an afternoon of thunder showers, I finally set out for Woodlands Garden off of Scott Boulevard in Decatur.

It is an absolutely lovely garden in the middle of an urban area, with beautifully tended trails and flower beds. Sometimes, they even have fairy house artists come in and put in their little houses around the gardens.

When I arrived, I was all alone--I could hear the traffic from Scott Boulevard, but there was peace in the garden. I really liked the solitude. I was tired after talking to and negotiating with people all day.

I walked on the trails, looking for a good spot to design my dirt tray. Along the way, I found beautiful orange mushrooms, wild ginger, with its heart-shaped leaf, a curved stick, small pinecones, a small pine branch, and a curved piece of bark. I also found a stand of tiny, fairy-like mushrooms near the ferns, but I did not have the heart to pick them.

I stopped when I saw an interesting plant standing so straight and tall. It had green berry-like things at the top of a tall, slim stem, with some of the "berries" turning red. I do not know its name, but I liked the pride and individualism of this plant. I made my little dirt tray around it.

I blocked off the small area by ringing it with pinecones. Then I put the tiny pine branch and ginger leaf in front of this plant. I put the two orange mushrooms behind the really cool piece of bark. Then, I put the curved stick in front for a sort of trellis to go through to enter.

Looking at the pictures, perhaps this symbolizes my family. I am the tall plant with the red berries, though I am not really tall. I do have to stand alone, sometimes, to protect everyone. The heart-shaped ginger leaf is my dog, who is my heart and substitute child since my children are grown. David and Danny, my sons, are the orange mushrooms, not right up there with me, but still integral to the family.

After I was through, I sat in the garden for awhile, enjoying the peace and quiet. I really wished I did not have to get to the computer to complete this assignment, but I did.
