Creative Play Therapy Feelings Bottle Technique and Activity
I enjoyed completing the play therapy feeling bottle technique and activity in my play therapy class class. The idea of putting various feelings being experienced into a bottle using symbolic art representations is very interesting. This is a quick and easy way to get someone to start talking about their feelings and provides a beautiful, creative, visual representation of the numerous emotions that can consume a person.
This play therapy activity would most definitely appeal to younger clients because it is fun, involves the use of their hands and colorful glitter and sequins. Children do not possess the expansive vocabulary necessary to accurately describe their emotions. Sometimes children don’t quite understand how they’re feeling and why they feel this way. The play therapy feeling bottle engages children in an activity to prompt them to talk about their feelings, bottle their feelings and truly understand them.

I am curious to know how effective this activity is on middle-school aged children and how it may adapted for effective use with older clients. I personally benefited for the activity because I was experiencing a range of emotions that day that I had not previous discussed with anyone. The activity provided a platform for me to describe my feelings, pour them into the bottle where I could see them and reflect on them. I could definitely see me using this activity again with others and perhaps creating another feeling bottle for myself.
