See how Christian school counselors use the Play Therapy Mandala.
This play therapy mandala is what I use in my school counseling program as a school counselor. I created with things from nature or things of the world. It is made from pieces of a pine cone.
Above the cross are seeds from a Japanese maple tree. They are connected together and resemble wings, like angel wings. When God is my center, I am able to see how He surrounds me with His presence. These wings also remind me of the many loved ones in heaven who surround me and have helped me to learn to keep Him in the center of my life.
There are three green balls that are the seeds from a cedar tree. These three resemble the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three seeds remind me of the efforts God has gone through to reveal Himself to me. They also remind me that God constantly pursues me even when I turn away.
The base of my mandala is sand because the beach is my favorite place. It is the place I feel closest to God. The sand reminds me of how God covers us with His love. Much like the waves in the ocean wash over the sand, He covers us and cleanses us. The sand also reminds me of how I sometimes wander in the desert...
The shells in the sand are my faithful family and friends who are also covered with His love. In spite of the many storms we face, they stand beside me. When I choose to wander in the desert, they are still beside me.
As I look at my completed mandala, although a part of me feels it isn't complete just as I am never complete, it reminds me of one of my favorite Scriptures: "So do not fear, I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Isaiah 41:10
