Christian Based Play Therapy Mandala Example for Play Therapist
I enjoyed creating this Christian based play therapy mandala for this course. In viewing my mandala, my palm tree represents my name which means palm tree in Hebrew. The palm tree towers above everything else in the picture which can represent my perseverance of trying to remain strong in the midst of tribulations. The palm tree is also surrounded with peace, sadness, anger, and uncertainty. The musical notes represent my love for music and music’s ability to calm me during certain periods and the way I often reflect on my life through music. I am a music person and enjoy listening to a wide range of music. Playing the violin, piano, and organ during my youth was so much fun and I have many wonderful memories surrounding these experiences.
I am noticing that the musical notes are in purple my favorite color which actually represents royalty. The background in the top portion of the picture is blue to represent blue skies and hope but can also represent that surrounding me is my struggle and battle with depression throughout the years. The yellow in the picture near the root is also indicative of the sadness of the depression I have struggled with through the years. I intended for the water to represent the beach and peace I get from going to the beach and viewing the ocean. I chose two colors for the water because often the most beautiful water in my opinion has two hues like the Gulf of Mexico and some parts of the Atlantic. After viewing my mandala, I think the two colors represent the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean since I am a California girl who is now considered a Georgia peach. Even though I love California, Georgia is my home.
On the same side of my mandala are hearts that represent love. The three hearts represent my love for God, family, and friends and God’s love for me and the Trinity. I am also noticing that the sun is underneath the branches of the palm tree instead of towering above it which I originally believed represented unresolved issues and conflict that prevent me from rising above the things that overwhelm me. In viewing the mandala more closely, I really believe the peaceful things-music, beach, and sunshine and hearts are battling and rising above any of the depression and issues deep within.
The left side of the mandala, also contain musical notes and open books. Reading books is one of my favorite past times and I love a great fiction novel to escape and relax to de stress from life’s concerns. The books also represent the word of God that I often reflect on, read, and memorize as a way of dealing with depression. The red represents anger has often been the easiest way for me to express my disappointment and hurts to others instead of expressing myself in other ways. In the midst of all of the stuff-sadness, disappointment, anger, etc, the palm tree still stands strong! Overall I see this mandala as a representation of who I have been, who I am right now, and who I will be if I truly let go and deal with my inner pain.
