Checkers Play Therapy Game Idea

In the play therapy game of Play Therapy Checkers, the participants must navigate, negotiate, manuever, and strategize in order to win the game. For this reason, I chose Checkers as a creative therapy tool for my clientele (prison population).
As depicted in the photograph of my Play Therapy Checkers play therapy game, the inmate is on the opposite side of the board from me, the counselor. In the middle of the board is the security aspect that is of utmost importance in the prison system. For true counseling to take place in this environment, the client must be proactive and have a true desire to make changes in his behavior. Hence, he must strive (under the worst circumstances) to do the necessary work to effect change.
With this Play Therapy Checkers game, I teach my clients that they have a good opportunity to receive the counseling they need that will be of benefit to them now and in the future.
Although it is not easy to navigate, negotiate, manuever, and strategize, it is critical in the game of Checkers. Indeed, it is critical in the prison system in terms of inmates receiving effective counseling.
