A School Counselor / Play Therapist Simple and Easy Genogram to Try

In my Play Therapy / School Counseling genogram I found pictures of the various miniatures that are represented in my family. I come from a family of five. I have three sisters; two older and one younger, and a younger brother. We all group up in the same home as our parents.

My father has many responsibilities. He is always on the go, and when he isn’t it makes the people around him uneasy. Professionally he is an LPC, but he is also the Imam at our Masjid, a radio personality and a Tai Chi instructor. He has always been a busy man, and has always prided himself on being able to financially provide for his family. All of his characteristics are fitting of an ant. When I think of ants I think of busy creatures, that are always working to build something, and that is exactly what my father does.

My mother put her professional career on hold so that she could educate her children. She opened a small school and not only educated her children, but over the years hundreds of others. Her school was open for 20 years, she currently teaches at a local private school and is at Mercer perusing her Master’s in Early Childhood Education. My mother is warm and cuddly, and puts her children first. With those characteristics in mind I chose a mama bear to represent her in my genogram.

My eldest sister is a computer programmer, and like my father she is extremely busy. She has a demanding job but manages to host dinners and exercise and volunteer. She is always everywhere, just like a bee. She is a busy bee; as I am typing this I realized that bees are sometimes nuisances, and I sometimes think my sister can be annoying, so a bee is extremely fitting for her.
My second oldest sister has an unapproachable exterior, but is as sweet as can be. Her miniature is a dog. A lot of people are scared of dogs, but when you get to know them they are cuddly and loving creatures that just want to have fun, and that is exactly how my sister is.

I chose a butterfly to represent myself and my younger sister. Even though we share a miniature, our butterflies are different. I am a butterfly because I enjoy observing others, and being around different groups of people. My sister’s butterfly is a social butterfly; she can talk to anyone. Her personality is amazing, and I am in constant admiration of her and her accomplishments.

Lastly, I chose a snail for my brother. He is taking a slow start into his life. He graduated high school, but is not actively engaging in college and does not have a plan b. He is extremely intelligent and a wonderful individual, but he is taking his time in finding his way.

This was one of the best school counseling / play therapy projects I have ever tried!
